Holographic Human Consciousness may be possible. Dmitry Itskov a Russian Media Mogul thinks that he will be able to connect a human brain to robotic arms and legs. Think ghost in a shell but not so sexy and in 30ty years he will be able to transfer the human consciousness holographically. IE no biological component. Whether such a being is still human or is the same life is the same question as "is the teleporter a murder machine." See a discussion on this plus many others at http://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/13437/in-star-trek-does-the-ori...
The question I want to consider is what and how such a person might live. The holographic environment would be whatever was desired. They could create a real world of Warcraft or perhaps something more erotic. What kind of work would they need to do and how would they do it. They wouldn't need to purchase anything since everything is just a hologram. Would a HoloHuman need to exist in a world that resembled the one they were born in, or could it be changed into something completely different? Perhaps all they would have is a button saying pleasure. Would the human race succumb to the lotus eater’s disease and no longer want anything more?
There is the possibility that this is why there are no aliens. If you can move your consciousness to the digital world and have everything you want why travel the universe? If this is the divide that keeps aliens from coming here then just maybe our curiosity will keep us from this fate.
Would we be able to multiply ourselves endlessly? Would we beable to recombine the different clones back to our original selves. I would be a world were you can do anything and everything all at once.
