I spent three days at the Caratunk House trying to decide if I was going to finish the trail. The pain in my knee was quit high, I was missing Tammy and I was thinking of quitting.
I talked to many people. A couple of people that had hiked it in the past. They talked like trail was a transformative spiritual experience. Frankly I never was transformed. There were several Nobos that talked like it was an adventure. I did feel that at the time. While I was doing it I felt like it was a job. I now feel like it was more of an adventure. Mostly because everyone else thinks of I as an adventure. They all say "You hiked the Appalachian trail wow."
Paul the owner of the Caratunk House is a quite man I talked to him or maybe at him. Paul is a good man the kind that is centered and rooted. He has done the triple crown though he doesn't talk about it. Some how while talking to him I decided to hike on. When ever I felt like quiting I thought of Caratunk and Hiked on.
Of all the hostels I stayed at I think that the Caratunk house is the best. It is an older house and Paul doesn't believe in bunks so people are two to a room. It has a living room and that has lots of books many that about the AT. It has many comfortable chairs and is light enough to read but dark enough to relax.
