Why I am no longer a Democrat

I started voting at eighteen. while I was still in college 1972. I was a registered democrat at the time and I voted democratic though I didn't vote for president I couldn't vote for either Nixon or McGovern. Just couldn't vote for McGovern though I hated Nixon. The first election I remember was 1960 Kennedy vs Nixon. I would have voted for Kennedy had I been able to at 6. Mostly because dad liked him. But I would vote for him now if he was running. Though I am unhappy that he ran a deficit in his first year.

In 1984 though I was still a registered democrat I voted for Regan. I was tired of 400 dollar hammers and started feeling that the government was interfering in peoples lives too much. I had decided that I could spend my money better than the government.

When we moved to Louisiana I registered republican and I have voted mostly republican since then. Though I didn't vote for Trump in 2016. I think he is a bully and a narcissist.

The question is why did I change I don't believe that I have changed in my opinions, and some of the issues that the republicans hold dear annoy me. The problem I have with todays democratic party is that they no longer believe that America is a good place to live and that Americans are corrupt. The American dream to me means that if you work hard save your money or invest wisely that your can succeed and advance.

The conservatives mostly republicans still believe this. They believe that we all need to work and if you work you should have a good life. That people who work hard or have great Ideas should advance while people who don't work hard. or don't work at all should be supported by a safety net so they don't starve, but they don't advance and just get to survive.

The liberals seem to think that no matter how you work or if you work that every one should get the good life or perhaps the same life, everyone should be equal that you should take from the rich and give to the poor. A fairly large number of people want to eliminate capitalism which has brought more people out of poverty than any other system. To paraphrase Churchill "Capitalism is the worst form of economy except all the others." Look at Venezuela this country is a large oil exporter but the people are very poor and it looks like it is getting poorer. It looks to me that the democrat want to do the same to the US. The green new deal and the Biden plan (that feels like the first step not a whole plan) They want to change the country to socialism. Certainly Ocasio does she is a social democrat.

More recently the democrats tacit support of the riots in Portland. The democratic support of  police bashing by Black Lives Mater and Antifa.  The post data base indicates that13 black men were shot in 2019 it doesn't show people that died in police custody from causes other than shooting. Though the number is higher even if it was 130 people it does not show that police are systemically killing black people. The dems are supporting defunding police and so many other things for political reasons that are not supported by facts. I could list other things that they are doing that are absurd.

It feels to me that the Dems want us all to be the same. Sadly I think that this means all of us are poor, Look to California (LA and San Francisco)and Washington specifically Seattle. Looking at the homeless situation in each. California despite having a large population and some of the best natural resources is forever broke. Washington though not broke seems to be dependent on eastern half of the state.

To summarize I feel that the Democrats tax more and add more rules that will reduce business growth and make everyone poorer, and that republicans will let us continue to keep more of our money and reduce rules to allow business to keep growing and we will all get richer.
