18-08-03 Hundred mile wilderness Hurd Brook

Large Niagara Maine (40 ft tall) pretty

From Baxter state park to Monson is one hundred miles with out a resupply. At least that is what the sing said. It isn't true since there is now white house landing.about halfway through, but it is the longest stretch of wilderness with out a resupply. I was nervous starting at Katadin means that you enter it on day two of your hike. Actually day three for me as I took a zero at Abol  Campground in Baxter State park. I had reserved two days there because I thought that a four thousand foot climb was going to suck the life out of my legs. and I was correct.

18-08-01 Hiking up katahdin

Me at Katahdin

I started my AT hike at Katahdin this is the northern end of the AT. It ranks among the hardest climbs on the trail. It is a five mile hike with a four thousand foot climb. The first two miles are a steep climb maybe at fifteen to twenty degree climb. My heart was pounding in my chest and and I was breathing hard.

Mohican outdoor center

I had hoped to get to the Mohican Outdoor Center before the rain that was expected in the late afternoon. Just about two the dark clouds started rolling in and I knew that I was going to get wet.

Pawling

Well I am in Pawling this is the first time off the trail since Palmerton on May 26. I plan to come off again at least for a bit in five or six days need to get the schedule such that I am not taking my time off on the weekends.

Pawling is a pretty little tourist town. It is full of touristy restaurants and shops, but still has the small town feel.

I am staying at the station inn and yes a train goes by many times a day and night. Didn't keep me up though.

Room is clean and the water in the shower is hot. That's all a hiker needs. It is a little small but OK.

Doyal hotel

Well here I am at the shelter trying to get some rest. I didn't sleep well at the Doyle hotel. I had heartburn all night long. So I didn't sleep.
I feel tired and my legs didn't come back at all

Not the Doyles fault I should be more careful about what I eat. The food was great, but you can't eat greasy food with out a gallbladder

VT north

T

Well I am hiking the AT again and am just shy of 250 miles. The trails are much better than Maine, and the views are good but not as good as Maine.

Toledo train to get to Harpers Ferry

I am at the train terminal in Toledo waiting for the train that leaves at eleven forty nine. In eleven hours I will be back on the Appalachian Trail.

I had a good time while home and I am glad I went home fort the week. Tammy and I were able to get kids and grand kids over Sunday. Everyone seemed to have a good time.

John and I talked about isle royal.

There was enough food to feed the fifth army. I sous vite a top sirloin in a Teriyaki sauce. It was wonderful if I say so myself.

Well I should be there tomorrow pm.
